COP28, the largest global event in the field of climate action, will start within 100 days in the UAE.
Minister of Climate Change and Environment Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi has confirmed that the UAE is fully prepared to host COP28 in November.
In cooperation with all partners and relevant parties, to highlight its pioneering role in promoting climate action globally.
And also contributing to protect nature and planet Earth and creating a better future for future generations.
She said:
“We have started the countdown to 100 days before the start of the COP28 Conference of Parties on the ground of the United Arab Emirates.
It is the date we are waiting for to highlight the UAE’s journey with its past, present and future in facing climate change locally and globally.
We see COP28 in the UAE as an achievement we live and see with the eyes of hope.
And a turning point because we participate as an active party to help humanity to face one of the hardest challenges it has ever faced.”
Minister of Climate Change and Environment Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi said about Cooperation:
“The UAE’s model of climate action is based on full cooperation and coordination of efforts between the various relevant parties.
Including federal and local government entities, the private sector, and all society individuals.
This supportive approach ensures that everyone included is the approach that the UAE adopts in facing climate change.
In addition to adapting to those changes socially and economically and fulfilling our global environmental and climate commitments.
Contributing in limiting the rise of the earth’s temperature to less than two degrees Celsius.
By keeping it at 1.5 degrees Celsius is still a goal that the world can achieve.”
She added:
“As we prepare to host the Conference of Parties, we are looking to a climate-safe and environmentally friendly future.
Moreover, we are working closely with all parties to enhance the objectives of our participation in the global conference.
The past period has witnessed many steps that highlight the UAE’s determination to achieve its climate pledges.
While the most prominent of which was the update of our nationally determined contributions.
As well as the setting of an ambitious target to reduce emissions by 40% by 2030.
As part of the UAE’s quest to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

In addition to the announcement of the National Hydrogen Strategy and the update of the 2050 National Energy Strategy.
The past period has also witnessed efforts with the participation of various segments of society.
Including the private sector to support the UAE’s climate and environmental efforts aimed at reducing emissions.
In addition to promoting sustainable food security, preserving biodiversity, protecting nature, and sustainable financing.
As well as the circular economy, and other important topics.”
She continued:
“Under the umbrella of the Year of Sustainability, the next 100 days until the start of COP28 will witness more diverse efforts.
Which the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment will announce along with all relevant government and private sector entities in the UAE.
Furthermore, the efforts will be directed towards achieving our climate and environmental goals in different sectors.
With the support of the wise leadership, the UAE will participate in the Conference of Parties armed with a development model.
Which puts sustainability at the top of its priorities and enhances its leadership and position in this vital field.”
Reducing emissions
She said:
“We look forward to COP28 where the world can cooperate to support the rapid energy transition in all the world countries.
In order to achieve the emission reduction targets by 2030,.
As well as implementing specific climate finance mechanisms for countries in a way that supports them in achieving the set climate goals.
And also help communities to adapt with climate change by all available means of support.
As a priority for us, we look forward to making COP28 the most inclusive Conference of Parties and ensuring that no one is left behind.”
She concluded:
“Cooperation is the key to all our efforts, and it is what can draw a better future for us and future generations.
Through cooperation, we can think together, exchange ideas, and reach solutions that can limit climate change and adapt to it.
And also turn challenges into opportunities through which we can build a sustainable economy for all the peoples.”
Through cooperation, we will ensure that COP28 is a turning point in the journey of the UAE and humanity.
