The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the completion of 90% of the project to implement bicycle paths in the Al Qudra and Mushrif areas.
Moreover, the length of bicycle paths is about seven kilometers.

Also they are connected to the existing paths in the two areas with a length of 32 kilometers.
So the total length of the paths in the two areas reached 39 kilometers.

In line with Dubai 2040 Urban Plan Bicycle Paths are implemented to make Dubai a bicycle-friendly city.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said:

“The project comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
In order to transform Dubai into a bicycle-friendly city.
By providing the appropriate alternatives to encourage residents to practice cycling.

Also this is in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Plan, which aims to make Dubai the best city to live in the world.”

The project also comes within the framework of a comprehensive plan developed by the RTA.
Which provides dedicated paths for running and cycling that cover all areas of the Emirate of Dubai.
As well as encouraging residents and visitors to practice sports and recreational activities to improve the quality of life in the emirate.

The RTA also seeks to enhance the connectivity between existing bicycle paths in residential areas, and to connect with tourist attractions in the area.

Two New Paths

His Excellency Al Tayer added:
“The first bicycle path starts from the Quranic Garden on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.
Until its intersection with Al Qudra Street.

It crosses the street through the shared pedestrian and bicycle bridge on Al Qudra Street.
In order to connect with the existing bicycle path in the Al Qudra area.

While the second bicycle path starts from Mushrif Park near the Crocodile Park.
Also it extends until its intersection with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.

From there, it heads north along the street until its intersection with Al Qudra Street.
It crosses the street through the pedestrian and bicycle bridge on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to reach the bicycle path in the Al Qudra area.
So the total length of the two new paths and the previous paths will be approximately 39 kilometers.”

Bicycle paths connect different vital areas in Dubai.

His Excellency explained that the bicycle path in the Al Qudra and Mushrif areas is part of a comprehensive plan to develop bicycle paths.
Which aims to connect different vital areas in the emirate.

The bicycle path plan includes increasing the total length of the bicycle network in Dubai.
As the bicycle network  length is currently 544 kilometers.
While the target for 2026 is 819 kilometers.

The coastal areas such as Jumeirah, Safa Park, and Marina will be connected to the external paths in Al Qudra, Sih Al Salam, and Nad Al Sheba.
Passing through the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Hills, and Nad Al Sheba areas.

Best Standards and Specifications

His Excellency Al Tayer added:
“In designing and implementing bicycle paths and setting speeds on them, we have applied the best international standards and technical guidelines.
In line with the nature of the area and the classification of the paths.

These paths have contributed to encouraging residents and visitors to practice cycling.
Also to use it as one of the alternative and sustainable means of transportation to achieve the strategy of the first and last mile trips.”

Bicycle Speeds

The RTA has set the speed limit for bicycles in the emirate at 30 km/h on paths dedicated to amateurs and paths shared with vehicles on safe roads.
20 km/h on paths dedicated or shared with pedestrians within the urban areas of the city.
In addition to unlimited speeds on training tracks, in line with the RTA’s commitment to the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
