World Future Energy Summit 2024 Focuses on Green Hydrogen in GCC Clean Energy Transition
The 16th edition of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2024 is the Middle East and North Africa’s (MENA) largest annual gathering dedicated to future energy and sustainability.
WFES will host a high-level delegation of global industry experts.
Who will explore the critical role of green hydrogen in accelerating the clean energy transition in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The summit will take place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from April 16-18, 2024.
However, it convenes at a time when the green hydrogen sector is witnessing significant growth.
With a large number of projects announced in recent years entering the implementation phase.
Driven by concerted efforts from companies and policymakers to adopt green hydrogen.
Over 1,400 Projects, 80 of them in MENA Region
The Hydrogen Council, a global CEO-led initiative, has reported that over 1,400 projects have been announced worldwide.
They are helping to mitigate challenges posed by inflation and rising costs in the green hydrogen sector.
The MENA region alone has seen 80 projects announced.
Moreover, the UAE launched its National Hydrogen Strategy.
While Masdar is committed to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030.
Saudi Arabia’s NEOM Green Hydrogen Company also plans to produce 1.2 million tons annually by 2026.
Demand and Market Potential:
Cornelius Matthes, CEO of Dii Desert Energy, a UAE-based think tank, said:
“The potential future demand for green hydrogen has shifted from a ‘maybe’ to a ‘must-have.’
Now, we need to understand the scale of this demand and the share of primary energy it could cover by 2050.
In addition to the role that the GCC can play in this new market, which is poised to surpass the size of the current oil market.”

Lana Al Sabbagh, WFES Chair and General Manager of RX Middle East, said:

Which aligns with our 2024 theme of ‘Leading the Energy Transition.'”
World Future Energy Summit 2024 will attract around 400 exhibitors and over 30,000 visitors.
Adding that it will feature more than 260 speakers across a series of conferences and panel discussions focusing on:
Solar energy, waste management, water, clean energy, smart cities, climate, and the environment.
