Mother of the Nation Launches “We Plant for Sustainability”
Under the generous patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Nation”, the General Women’s Union announced the launch of “We Plant for Sustainability” project in collaboration with government and local authorities and the private sector.
Over 5 years, the project aims to train 3,500 women, support and establish 140 agricultural projects led by Emirati women.
Besides increasing production by more than 20%.
Targeting women working in agriculture, university students, housewives, and those seeking employment in the agricultural sector.
This initiative is part of the national program “Plant the UAE”.
Supporting the UAE’s agricultural development goals and enhancing sustainable national food security rates.
As well as building new partnerships with the private sector and ensuring the spread and sustainability of green areas in the country.
3 Programs
The General Women’s Union explained that We Plant for Sustainability project includes 3 programs:
- Training and Development
- Sustainable Agriculture
- Marketing and Commercial Support
The Training and Development program consists of 3 axes:
First: “My Agriculture is My Sufficiency”:
It includes setting up a summer camp for schools and organizing an open day.
Targeting housewives and students in the first, second, and third cycles.
Second: “Sharpening Expertise”:
It organizes training workshops on sustainable agriculture, resource management, and modern agricultural production methods.
In addition to field visits for farm owners and agricultural license holders to the state’s farms to learn about the best practices in sustainable agriculture.
Third: “Transforming a large percentage of female farm owners into entrepreneurs”:
This is by conducting training workshops on business management.
As well as establishing agricultural projects that support the economic diversity of local products.

Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, said:
“Through these pioneering initiatives, the General Women’s Union aims to build women’s capacities.
Enabling them to optimally manage income sources and enhance their economic participation in various sectors.
For this reason, the General Women’s Union launched initiatives that focus on agriculture.
Serving both economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.
In order to affirm the importance of the women role in preserving environmental sustainability.
By promoting environmental behaviors and practices among family members.”
