UNCOPS 2024 in New York City
The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Interior, participated in the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2024) as the sponsoring state.
The summit took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York City from 26 to 27 June.
In fact, this participation reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to enhancing global efforts for security, stability, peacekeeping, and peace preservation in various regions worldwide.
UNCOPS is the largest gathering of ministers and police chiefs.
Moreover, it brings together senior representatives from regional police organizations worldwide.
It is also a biennial event attended by police leaders from member states to engage in bilateral discussions.
With the aim of promoting peace, security, and international development for all.
The summit also seeks to elevate cooperation in the law enforcement and security fields among member countries.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Thanked the UAE
In his opening remarks, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, expressed gratitude to the UAE for sponsoring the Chiefs of Police Summit.
The UAE has contributed significantly to various activities related to United Nations policing.
Including the hosting of performance assessment conferences for UN police leaders in Abu Dhabi over the past two years.
This has strengthened the UAE’s role in enhancing dialogues with international organizations and raising law enforcement capabilities.
Additionally, the UAE has hosted specialized training courses to enhance the skills of UN police personnel.
These courses have focused on leadership development for female officers within the UN police force.
Furthermore, a selected group of officers from the Ministry of Interior has been accredited as trainers in various roles within the UN police.
The UAE Ministry of Interior as part of UN peacekeeping missions
The UAE Ministry of Interior has also participated in regular field visits to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Including those in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic.
During the summit, the UAE delegation reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuous collaboration with all countries, organizations, and international institutions in the security and law enforcement domains.
The strategic partnership with the UN Police and their efforts in the International Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC) initiative were highly praised.
The UAE’s consistent policies are aligned with the vision and support of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
They have played a crucial role in resolving numerous international and regional issues.
Mentioning that the journey of empowerment and nation-building continues under the leadership of the UAE President “HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.”

The delegation emphasized the ongoing commitment of the UAE Ministry of Interior to contribute to international and regional efforts in establishing global security and stability. They also extended their best wishes for all the participants in this summit.
On the sidelines of UNCOPS 2024, the International Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC) initiative hosted a discussion.
The discussion title is: “Guardians of the Earth: Global Law Enforcement Strategies for Environmental Protection.”

This session brought together representatives from the global law enforcement community.
They raised awareness about the increasing positive impact of police operations on environmental crimes and climate change.
Best practices and valuable lessons learned were shared to benefit the global law enforcement community.
And also to enhance international cooperation in developing strategies for environmental law enforcement.
