UK Ambassador to the UAE, Edward Chumbley-Hobart, confirms UK support for the UAE in COP28.
UK Ambassador to the UAE Edward Chumbley-Hobart has confirmed his country’s support for the UAE’s hosting of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Dubai in 2023.
In a statement UK Ambassador, Chumbley-Hobart, said that the UAE and the UK have a long-standing relationship.
Also the “UAE-UK Partnership for the Future” announced by the two countries in 2021 has helped to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
Furthermore, Chumbley-Hobart added that the UK attaches great importance to COP28.
Since it will provide an opportunity for the world to meet and discuss ways to reduce climate change.
As well as implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement.
“In COP28, we think that the UAE is a great country to be hosting it, and understands energy.
Has a long history in energy, has a long history in renewable and clean energy including nuclear.
So, it has an example it has set and we need to bring more countries with us. But it’s a huge challenge,’’
Said Edward Hobart in an interview with Emirates News Agency (WAM).
He spoke about the UK’s vision of the importance of COP28 and its role in bringing about a quantum leap in global climate action as one of the main areas of joint cooperation between the two countries.
Chumbley-Hobart said that the UAE is a great and developed country and will host COP28 efficiently.
He added “The UAE is an expert in the field of energy and has a long history in renewable and clean energy
The UK will actively participate in COP28 and provide support to other countries that are working to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Chumbley-Hobart said that the UK and the UAE are working together on a number of bilateral initiatives in the field of environment and food security.
and they are committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Also UK Ambassador to the UAE said:
“We’ve been strong contributors at all COPs up to the one that we chaired two years ago in Glasgow.
So we’ll have many of our leaders as well as British companies, British investors, British scientists and experts contributing to COP28.’’
UAE-UK partnership in renewable energy
Chumbley-Hobart said that the UAE and the UK have a strong partnership in the field of renewable energy.
Moreover, the UAE is investing in a number of UK renewable energy projects.
Including London Array offshore wind farm and Moray East offshore wind farm.
He added that the UK is also investing in renewable energy projects in the UAE.
Including Shams 1 solar power plant and Al Dhafra Solar project.
In addition, Chumbley-Hobart said that the UAE and the UK are working together to develop new technologies in the field of renewable energy.
Also they are committed to working together to reduce their carbon emissions and combat climate change.
The UAE is committed to hosting a successful COP28 summit.
Since the UAE is working with the UNFCCC and other countries to ensure that the conference is a success.
In fact, the UAE hosts a number of events and initiatives to raise awareness and promote action on climate change.
