The UAE welcomed the UNHRC adoption for a resolution on countering religious hatred.
The resolution constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility, or violence.
In this regard, the UAE emphasized the need to promote respect for religions, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Since they are the most effective means to achieve prosperity, progress, and shared living.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the UAE welcomes this step.
This step is consistent with the agreement of UN Security Council members on the resolution presented by the UAE and the UK.
During the period of UAE’s presidency for the Council in last June, UN Security Council members agreed to the resolution “tolerance, peace and international security”.
Which enhances international efforts through a comprehensive approach that promotes tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Furthermore, the ministry affirmed the UAE’s commitment as a member of the Human Rights Council for the period 2022-2024.
Also the Ministry confirmed that the UAE supports common understanding.
As well as enhancing communication and dialogue to contribute to regional and international stability and prosperity.
The UAE will continue in supporting the human fraternity and respecting religious freedom.
Continuously the UAE will give supportive efforts towards tolerance and moderation.
And certainly the UAE will reject all acts that seek to spread hate speech and extremism.
In this context, the GCC Secretary General, Jassem Mohammed Al-Bedewi, praised the adoption of the resolution on countering religious hatred by the UNHRC, due to the fact that it constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility, or violence.
In a statement Jassem Mohammed Al-Bedewi confirmed the following:
“Burning of the Holy Quran copies by extremists in Sweden, also similar incidents have highlighted the urgent need for international resolutions.
In order to combat these heinous acts that promote religious hatred and encourage violence and discrimination.
Also, Al-Bedewi expressed the Gulf Cooperation Council rejection and condemnation for any act that affects religions and holy books.
On Monday, The UNHRC adopted a resolution condemning acts of religious hatred, such as burning the Quran.
After an emergency discussion requested by Pakistan on behalf of many countries in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The resolution was issued following the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
Additionally, the resolution condemns any advocacy of religious hatred against individuals.
Which constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility, or violence, including the recent public and deliberate acts.
Also, it calls on states to adopt laws that allow them to hold those responsible for such acts accountable.
