Azerbaijan To Host COP29 This Year
During his presence in Baku to transfer COP Presidency, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President, emphasized that the UAE’s forward-thinking leadership has solidified its position in the international community.
It also strengthened its pioneering role in climate and development efforts.
UAE’s Impactful COP Presidency
Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the UAE’s impactful COP presidency.
As it was marked by significant achievements in global climate goals.
He urged all stakeholders to build upon COP28’s milestones in climate action and sustainable growth.
He expressed gratitude for the guidance of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, who inspired the COP28 team’s ambitious efforts.
The UAE Agreement
Al Jaber credited the UAE’s leadership for the conference successes.
Including the High Committee for COP28 chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed.
He also commended the collective efforts of organizations, teams, and communities across the UAE.
Dr. Al Jaber noted that the UAE Agreement, which initially seemed an improbable feat, became a tangible success.
Demonstrating the UAE’s commitment to multi-stakeholder diplomacy, which led to globally recognized achievements in climate action.
He underscored the importance of the UAE’s approach—favoring partnership over division and dialogue over discord.

Initiatives by the Previous COP Presidency
Since its adoption at COP28, the UAE Agreement has become a reference point for global climate ambitions and sustainable development.
Among its key objectives are a responsible and balanced energy transition.
As well as tripling global renewable energy capacity, enhanced energy efficiency by 2030 and forest conservation efforts.
Dr. Al Jaber highlighted additional progress, including initiatives.
Such as Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter, now encompassing 55 companies representing 44% of global oil production.
In addition to the recent meeting in Abu Dhabi that focused on integrating low-emission economic growth strategies across sectors.
He concluded by calling for sustained action to realize the UAE Agreement’s practical climate solutions.
Underscoring the need of ongoing efforts to ensure the UAE’s impactful climate legacy endures through global partnerships and multi-sector collaboration.
