The United Arabs Emirates Special Olympics has released a study on the impact of the Special Olympics World Games, Abu Dhabi 2019 that was held in the month of March, on the people of determination and also their participation in the international championships. The study included many important outcomes including the rise in the number of competitors by 400% and also the increase in the number of sporting events by 50%.
Additionally, it also included an increase in the number of female participants in about 18 sports by about 27 percent and also the number of male participants by 7 percent. The study also showed the progress and development in the performance of the games.
The athletes from the United Arabs Emirates has secured 182 medals and was placed in the fifth position on the international medals table while first in the table of North Africa and the Middle East. The Special Olympics had also praised the performance of the National team of the UAE.
Special Olympics is known as the largest sports organization in the world for adults and children with physical and intellectual disabilities. The study is part of the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, to advance women’s sports.
The Executive Director of the Special Olympics UAE, Talal Al Hashemi said that the group aimed to invest on the heritage of the games and also launch special Olympic programs around the United Arabs Emirates along with the help of their respective partners. The main focus of the group is to achieve social integration along with the participation from maximum athletes.
