UAE participation in 3rd Sherpa meeting for G20 summit
His Excellency Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State, participated in the third extraordinary meeting of Sherpa of the G20 summit, which was held from 27 to 29 October through visual communication techniques, in addition to the participation of His Excellency Abdulnasser Alshaali Assistant Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The G20 summit was attended by official representatives of the G20 member states with the aim of making further progress in the discussions and reaching consensus on drafting the leaders’ statement, especially since all ministerial meetings and working groups concluded their work for this year.
Sherpa members efforts in the G20 summit
During the meeting, His Excellency Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh praised the efforts of all Sherpa members participating in the work of the G20 summit and the hard work of the participating colleagues, and their dedication and sincerity in their efforts to find common solutions, expressing his confidence, that will help to pave the way for a better rebuilding, in order to ensure a full recovery and to deal with the most pressing challenges today and incoming the future.
UAE efforts during the G20 summit
During the G20 summit, His Excellency praised the work taken by the ministries and institutions in the UAE to ensure constructive participation, indicating that the UAE’s participation in this event is a great opportunity, as the state collects its endeavours according to a comprehensive government approach to contribute to the work of the G20 summit and benefit from it, and we tried during the group’s work is to deliver the voices of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), developing countries and small island states. In an objective way, and not just in the name of the Emirates, it helped to promote inclusive policies and practices in the G20 summit.

G20 summit empowering horizons
The G20 summit, which was held for the first time in 1999, is an annual gathering which includes the most important economic powers in the world, as it works to strengthen international economic cooperation. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia invited the UAE to participate in the work of the G20 summit 2020 in December of 2019, in its capacity as Chairman of the current session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The themes of the G20 summit for this year were announced after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia assumed the presidency of the group, which is “achieving the opportunities of the twenty-first century for all”, with broad goals represented in “empowering people, protecting the planet, and forming new horizons.”
