UAE and Myanmar Diplomatic Ties Set up

A joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic ties between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has been signed.

On behalf of the United Arab Emirates, Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, signed the Joint Communique, while Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, signed the Joint Communique on behalf of his country.

Mutual interests between Myanmar & the UAE

The Joint Communique affirms the shared interest of both countries. This includes promoting mutual understanding and expanding political , economic and social spheres of friendship and cooperation.

Ambassador Nusseibeh noted that, on the basis of common interests and goals, the UAE looks forward to improving relations with Myanmar. She also shared the excitement of the UAE for partnering with Myanmar, including ASEAN, to unlock potential alliances to fulfill the needs of the countries and peoples of the country.

Following the signing, bilateral relations between the two countries were clear by both sides. Also prospects for collaboration at the UN were under examination. They addressed the Rohingya situation and the need to open up contact lines. This is a priority concern for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It’s worth mentioning that the UAE is currently chairing the organization.

In the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, Ambassador Tun thanked the UAE for the five metric tons of medical assistance.  The UAE sent this assistance to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar earlier. He also thanked the UAE for their assistance and support. Such support was during the general election process of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. This includes ensuring that their citizens living in the UAE could cast their ballots.

It’s an undeniable fact that the UAE is establishing a line of good relations with every country on the planet. This goes side to side with the vision of its leaders for a whole peaceful world.
