The United Arab Emirates has donated 6.6 tons of material to the UK which will enable the country to produce millions of personal protective equipment items, PPE helping fight COVID-19.
The shipment arrived Friday morning on a special chartered flight at Heathrow Airport and consisted of 6.6 tons of melt blown fabric, an essential component of surgical face masks.
The material is currently running a global shortage and its export from the UAE is restricted.
UAE is helping fight Covid-19
This one consignment would allow the UK to manufacture millions of face masks.
The UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mansoor Abulhoul, said: “We are delighted to be able to help Britain, one of our closest friends and allies. The UAE is committed to helping fight COVID-19 wherever it can and has donated aid to 63 countries around the world.”
Due to its internationally recognized success in curbing the spread of COVID-19 the UAE was able to supply the material.
The UAE retooled factories to manufacture PPE shortly after the virus surfaced.
This has launched one of the most rigorous monitoring and tracking systems in the world – the UAE has screened 2 million individuals so far, and plans to monitor nearly all 9 million inhabitants and citizens.
Careful monitoring of the supply chain has ensured that the UAE did not exhaust domestic suppliers of melt blown fabric.

In April, Dubai’s Vice President, Prime Minister and Monarch, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, donated 60 tons of urgent humanitarian assistance to the UK.
ExCel London, the convention center by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, which currently is NHS Nightingale, has been rent-free access to the NHS.
