Confidence in UAE Role at COP28 from Ethiopian Prime Minister

Currently, the UAE aims to expand its capabilities and expertise in sustainability and technological innovation to lead the global trend aimed at facing climate change through technology.

Inter-regional Center for Strategic Analysis in Abu Dhabi, confirmed the huge benefit for the UAE economy caused by clean tech usage.

Since the UAE efforts to use clean tech to combat climate change is positive for economy.
Due to the fact that clean tech use will attract foreign direct investment.
Also, clean tech use will surly support the industrial sector to achieve its strategy.

The efforts to use clean tech are aimed at achieving the UAE industrial strategy..

Mentioning that the UAE industrial strategy aims to increase the size of the industrial sector in the gross domestic product to $81.69 billion by 2031.
Also, The Inter-regional Center clarified that the UAE has taken several key measures to enhance the role of technology in combating climate change.

The key measures include adopting technologies to increase agricultural production in harsh climate conditions.
By using digital technologies and artificial intelligence to improve water and energy efficiency in the agricultural sector.
Furthermore, The UAE has invested heavily in reduction emission techs by increasing the share of renewable, clean, and alternative energy sources in the energy mix.

The UAE announced its intention to invest $163 billion in clean and renewable energy and key technologies.
While Adnoc allocated $15 billion to invest in low-carbon solutions, alternative energy sources, and emission reduction technologies.

Other measures include launching several initiatives and strategies to promote the use of technology.

For example the Strategic Initiative to Achieve Climate Neutrality by 2050, which was announced in 2021.
Along with supporting the global efforts to
achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
Since the UAE organized the Climate Technology Forum to explore modern innovations and investment opportunities.
This initiative came within the UAE’s preparations to host COP28.


Moreover, strong recycling and waste management industries were founded by developing waste-to-energy projects.

Also, enhancing water treatment and sewage treatment technologies continuously in order to improve water efficiency by reducing consumption and reuse.Environmental authorities are working on developing and implementing policies to regulate industrial emissions.
Through operating Air Quality Monitoring Program and the smart app of air quality indicators.

The UAE’s wide interest in accelerating the deployment of technology to combat climate change is due to several motives.

According to the Inter-Regional Center, the motives include the following:

  • Contributing to achieving carbon neutrality and sustainable development.
  • Affirming the UAE’s linkage to the global trend towards reducing emissions.
  • Promoting its international status in the digital technology field.
  • Creating new economic opportunities.
