Wego Travel Trends During Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in the UAE
Wego, the largest online travel marketplace in MENA region, has revealed the best travel trends for Ramadan in the UAE.
During the period leading up to the holiday season, there is a significant increase on the demand of flight and hotel bookings in the UAE.
Increase in Flight and Hotel Bookings:
- In February, the international flight bookings from the UAE surpassed figures from the same period last year by 70.1%.
- Bookings for upcoming flights in the coming months are expected to see a similar year-on-year jump.
Due to the confluence of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and the spring break in 2024. - Flight ticket prices to some destinations, such as the Philippines, UK, and Germany, have increased year-on-year.
- Wego expects prices for popular destinations to continue rising, especially with more families planning vacations during the holidays.
Hotel Occupancy and Room Rates:
Amidst a busy month with major events like Gulfood and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Dubai saw a slight increase in hotel occupancy rates in February 2024.
Mentioning that Wego bookings exceeding last year’s numbers by 23.2%.
At the same time, average hotel room rates in Dubai experienced a 20.3% year-on-year increase.
Wego’s report states that Dubai hotel occupancy and daily rates may continue on an upward trajectory in the coming months.
As data suggests typical demand rise among UAE residents during Ramadan weekends and Eid al-Fitr break.
Travel During Eid:
- This year, Eid al-Fitr in the UAE is expected to see a surge in outbound air traffic compared to last year’s Eid.
- Wego observed a nearly fourfold increase in travelers searches for flights from the UAE during Eid al-Fitr in 2024 compared to 2023.
- Wego anticipates further search increases as more UAE travelers finalize their travel arrangements in the weeks or days leading up to Eid al-Fitr.
