UAE Transplant Congress: Health Insurance to Cover Transplantation Surgeries Soon
Dr. Ali Abdel Karim Al Obaidli, Chairman of the National Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee in the UAE, announced that health insurance will cover organ donation and transplantation surgeries soon.
Speaking at the opening of the annual UAE Transplant Congress 2024 in Dubai, Al Obaidli said:
“This step will ease the financial burden of such procedures”
He also mentioned that “altruistic donation,” referring to organ donation between unrelated individuals for humanitarian purposes, will also be gradually implemented in the near future.
Al Obaidli explained that health insurance coverage for organ donation and transplantation surgeries will contribute to increasing the number of transplant procedures in the country.
It will also reduce waiting lists, which currently include thousands of patients in need of transplants.
Developing regulations and procedures that guarantee the safety and rights of all parties involved.
He pointed out that the National Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee is currently studying international best practices in altruistic donation.

Which is organized by Abu Dhabi Center for Medical Ethics and Dubai Center for Medical Ethics.
