The UAE and Hong Kong Share Strong Relations
Sheikh Saud Ali Al Mualla, Consulate General of the UAE in Hong Kong, affirmed the distinguished and growing relations between the UAE and Hong Kong in the economic, commercial, and cultural fields.
Al Mualla said:
“The two sides are linked by close economic ties, strong relations, and reciprocal visits by many high-level official delegations.
Which have resulted in strategic cooperation in various fields.”
He explained that trade between the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong has seen significant growth in recent years.
As it reached $7.98 billion in the first half of last year 2023, an increase of 8.3%, compared to the same period of 2022.
He mentioned that the United Arab Emirates is a major trading partner of Hong Kong.
Moreover, the UAE has always been its largest trading partner in MENA region for many years.
Pointing to the existence of signed agreements between the two sides such as:
- The double taxation avoidance agreement
- The agreement to encourage and protect investments
- In addition to agreements covering several fields including air services, financial markets, and financial technology.
Specialized relations
Al Mualla pointed out that the United Arab Emirates appreciates its distinguished relations with Hong Kong as a major economic partner.
Hong Kong Economic and Commercial Office was opened in Dubai in October 2021.
Which contributes to opening new horizons for cooperation between the two sides at various levels such as economic, commercial and cultural.
He said that the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong enjoy a distinct strategic position.
This is in light of their distinctive geographical location.
Because Hong Kong is a major hub in the Belt and Road Initiative at the level of Asian countries.
While the UAE represents a major gateway to the Middle East and North Africa region.
Therefore, linking the two centers together is very important in light of this fact.

Constant efforts to link Business Communities
He pointed out that the General Consulate of the UAE in Hong Kong is constantly working to help the business communities in Hong Kong and China to access UAE market.
And also to enhance cooperation between the two sides in all fields and to facilitate communication between individuals and institutions.
As well as building on the strong existing trade and investment relations between the two sides, and encouraging more cooperation in emerging fields.
Such as financial technology, green financing, and blockchain.
The consulate is also working to help the UAE business community to benefit from the thriving markets in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao.
In addition to helping UAE companies, established in Hong Kong, to expand their investments and business footprint.
