The UAE and Azerbaijan Presidents Meet in Baku.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, met in Baku on January 9, 2024.
In order to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in a range of areas.
Including the economy, investment, renewable energy, and security.
The UAE and Azerbaijan are working together to promote peace and stability.
The two leaders welcomed the positive developments and recent steps towards peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
They also agreed to work together to promote stability, peace, and development in the Caucasus region.
The meeting also discussed the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which Azerbaijan will host this year.
In this context, His Highness expressed his wishes for success and good luck to Azerbaijan in hosting this global event.
And building on the historic “UAE Agreement” on climate that emerged from COP28 at the end of last year.
Which is accelerating concrete practical steps in the path of global climate action.
And also addressing the challenges of climate change in a way that enhances sustainable economic and social development for all peoples of the world.

Signing of several memorandums of understanding and protocols of intent.
In addition to their discussions, the two leaders witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding.
As well as protocols of intent aimed at expanding cooperation in a number of areas, including:
- Strategic partnership between the UAE and Azerbaijan
- Cooperation between the UAE Ministry of Finance and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Finance
- Cooperation between Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy
- Memorandum of understanding between the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources
- Memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation in electric power transmission projects
- Strategic cooperation for the export of clean energy
- Roadmap for the implementation of renewable energy projects
- Strategic cooperation agreement between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR)
The signing of these agreements and memoranda of understanding is a testament to the strong and growing relationship between the UAE and Azerbaijan.
It also demonstrates the two countries’ commitment to working together to achieve common goals and promote peace and prosperity in the region.
