The British newspaper The Telegraph highlighted the large number of Britons leaving London and settling in Dubai.
According to some estimates, 30,000 Britons moved to Dubai in 2021, rising to 35,000 in 2022 and then to 40,000 in 2023.
The newspaper revealed that approximately 240,000 Britons currently reside in the city.
With expectations that this number will continue to grow in the near future.
The Telegraph stated in its report:
“In Britain, online searches for jobs at Dubai and for relocating to the emirate have increased by nearly 50% in 2024 compared to the previous year.”
A Preferred Choice
The newspaper shared the experience of writer John O’Kelly, who said:
“Dubai is cementing its position as a symbol of wealth and prosperity.
At a time when economic prospects in Britain appear bleak with no signs of improvement.
Dubai has become the preferred choice and dream destination for young professionals fleeing London in search of better opportunities.”
In 2024, O’Kelly decided to join the wave of migration from London to Dubai, leaving his life in Hackney, London, behind.

He remarked: “Living in a city that is moving towards the future gives you a sense of positivity.
The constant feeling of progress provides reassurance—something completely different from what I left behind.
While Europe suffers from increasing economic pressures, Dubai is witnessing remarkable prosperity.”
Secure Destination
One detail that caught his attention in a store was a row of smartphones left unattended on a charging table while their owners shopped.
During a business meeting, colleagues told him they don’t even bother locking their homes, considering it unnecessary.
He added:
“I spent many years in London, and I still can’t behave this way.
Even though all the evidence confirms that Dubai is an exceptionally safe city.
The absolute confidence that you can walk anywhere, at any time of the day or night, without worry.
Using your phone and headphones freely—is incredible.”

A Walkable and Bike-Friendly City
O’Kelly also noted that Dubai is becoming more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly.
As numerous initiatives are encouraging residents to use bicycles.
Besides the development of scenic cycling routes passing through different parts of the city.
He acknowledged that moving to a city with year-round sunshine requires some adaptation.
But emphasized that tourism plays a fundamental role in Dubai’s economy.
Making many of its entertainment facilities geared toward visitors who are willing to spend.

The Telegraph Explains Why Dubai is an Ideal Travel Destination..
He continued: “Dubai is an ideal travel hub, located just four hours by flight from one-third of the world’s population and eight hours from two-thirds.
This makes it a perfect starting point for exploring new destinations—long weekend trips to the Maldives, India, and Nepal are common.”
He added: “Dubai is one of the greatest food cities in the world.
With expats making up a significant portion of its population, the city has cultivated a diverse and vibrant culinary scene.
Beyond fine dining, Dubai also offers exceptional casual dining experiences.”
O’Kelly concluded his report to The Telegraph by stating:
“It’s hard to deny that life in the UK has become extremely difficult for many.
The decision to leave was tough, but watching the ongoing crises and the punitive policies affecting people there from a distance reassured me that I made the right choice by leaving.”
