The UAE Participates in the 4th International Conference on Nuclear Security:
The UAE is participating in the 4th International Conference on Nuclear Security, held in Vienna, Austria, from May 20 to 24, 2024, under the theme “Preparing for the Future.”
Moreover, the conference is held every four years under Resolution GC(66)/RES/7 adopted by the IAEA General Conference in September 2022.
It aims to strengthen national nuclear security systems, exchange expertise, and discuss current trends in nuclear security.
The UAE delegation is represented by His Excellency Ambassador Hamad Al Kaabi, Permanent Representative to the IAEA.
Alongside representatives from various government entities.
Cooperation in nuclear security
Ambassador Al Kaabi emphasized the strong relationship between the UAE and the IAEA.
He also highlighted their significant support for the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program.
Adding that the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) will present technical papers at the conference on the UAE’s experience in nuclear security, safety assessments, capacity building, and regulatory requirements.
The UAE will also participate in two side events: “Nuclear Facilities in Times of Crisis” and “Educating the Next Generation of Nuclear Security Professionals.”
While bilateral meetings will be held with international partners to discuss cooperation in nuclear security.
FANR will participate in a meeting on “Future Regulatory Frameworks.”
The UAE’s participation reflects its commitment to:
- The highest standards of nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation.
- Strengthening international cooperation in nuclear security.
- Building the capacity of the next generation of nuclear security professionals.
- Developing peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
