The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has proposed Resolution 2720.
Which calls for urgent action to allow the safe and wide-scale delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
And also the resolution is calling to create conditions for a sustainable ceasefire, and appoint a humanitarian and reconstruction coordinator for Gaza.
Details of the Statement by the Secretary-General of the GCC
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 24, 2023, Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, Secretary-General of the GCC, praised the UAE’s effective diplomatic efforts.
That led to the adoption of the resolution by the Security Council.
Al-Badawi considered the resolution a significant step towards alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza and allowing for more aid to be delivered.
The resolution calls for:
- Urgent action to allow for the safe and wide-scale delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
- Creating conditions for a sustainable ceasefire.
- Appointing a humanitarian and reconstruction coordinator for Gaza.
Al-Badawi urged Israel to swiftly implement the resolution.
And also to abide by all UN resolutions and international humanitarian law.
Especially refraining from targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza, including hospitals, schools, shelters, and camps.
