Significant Increase in Flights by the Emirati Carriers During January 2024
The Emirati carriers (Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, Air Arabia, and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi) witnessed a significant growth in their number of flights during January 2024.
The number of flights increased by 13.97% compared to the same period in 2023.
According to data from OAG, a company specializing in providing data to airports and airlines, the Emirati Carriers operated 38,667 flights in January 2024, compared to 33,922 flights in January 2023.
Emirates Airlines Comes in the First Place.
Emirates airline topped the list of carriers in terms of flights number, accounting for 36.7% of the total, which translates to 14,217 flights.
Flydubai came in second place with 9,867 flights, representing an 11.6% increase from January 2023.
While Etihad Airways operated 6,666 flights, Air Arabia operated 6,437 flights, and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi operated 1,480 flights.
The size of the Emirati Carriers fleets has grown to 508 aircraft, serving more than 200 international destinations.
Emirates leads the way in terms of fleet size, operating 264 aircraft, accounting for 52% of the total.
While Etihad Airways operates 95 aircraft (18.7%) and flydubai operates 84 aircraft (16.5%).
Air Arabia operates 43 aircraft, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi operates 10 aircraft, and Wizz Air operates 12 aircraft.
Extra Bookings From the UAE in Eid Al Fitr
This year, the number of customers opting for international travel has risen to 60% of all bookings, with 40% choosing to stay local.
Due to this rise, Dnata Travel announced extra travel bookings from the Emirates for the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holiday in April.
Mentioning that the most popular destinations for Eid Al Fitr bookings from the UAE are, in order of preference:
- Maldives
- Thailand
- Italy
- Mauritius
- United States of America

The Emirati Carriers are continuously striving to strengthen their network by increasing weekly flights and launching new destinations.
This comes after recording a special growth in the number of passengers traveling through the country’s airports last year.
With expectations of returning to pre-COVID-19 air traffic levels.
