UAE Focuses on International Cooperation for Climate Action at UN General Assembly
During the 79th UN General Assembly, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, COP28 President, emphasized the importance of global partnerships.
In order to tackle climate change and promote sustainable development.
Aligned with the UAE leadership’s vision, the COP28 Presidency focused on implementing the historic “UAE Agreement”.
What is the UAE Agreement ?
The “UAE Agreement” for climate refers to a framework that was introduced during COP28 preparations.
It was led by the UAE, to align global efforts towards limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
This agreement focuses on several key areas aimed at accelerating climate action and supporting sustainable development globally.
While not a legally binding document, it serves as a call to action and a blueprint for enhancing collaboration between nations to meet ambitious climate targets.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber emphasized the need for investments in energy infrastructure and AI
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber urged all nations to submit enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) before the deadline “February 2025”.
In order to significantly advance climate action this decade.
The UAE has committed to submitting its third version of NDCs ahead of COP29.
With a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions across all sectors.

The COP28 team engaged in high-level meetings and events, reinforcing collaboration with COP29 in Azerbaijan and COP30 in Brazil.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber emphasized the need of investments in energy infrastructure and AI.
In addition to the need of more support for the emerging economies.
Youth and biodiversity were also key topics, with discussions on empowering young climate leaders and protecting biodiversity.
UAE’s efforts are seen as crucial for driving global climate goals, notably through initiatives like the $30 billion Altera Climate Fund and collaborations with key global stakeholders.
These engagements mark a significant step towards COP29, with the UAE continuing to lead on climate solutions and international cooperation.
