The Health Promotion Department of HPD at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah conducted a survey on the use of applications and programs that promote the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and physical activity, maintaining healthy body weight and preventing chronic diseases in order to measure and evaluate the level of health awareness of the population of the Emirate of Sharjah.
The results showed that 76% of the targeted sample emphasized the importance of physical activity in improving public health, 45% practised regular physical activity (once to 3 times per week), 75% of them emphasized the importance of nutrition, while 30% of them were keen to read the food label before purchasing Products to learn more about ingredients and calories.
This survey indicates that the health awareness in the Sharjah community is in line with the vision and directions of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah.
The survey revealed that 57 percent of respondents chose the doctor as the first source of awareness, followed by health-related social media pages with 24 percent. The survey also found that respondents were 45% more interested in receiving outreach tips through social media platforms and smart applications, followed by media at 30%, which underlines the need for increased focus on using social networking sites to provide awareness of training programs. Instagram has emerged as the most preferred way to communicate and receive information, followed by WhatsApp, Snapchat, and YouTube.
