Belgian Philipsen is giving the UAE Team Emirates its first Vuelta success this year

On the 15th stage of the Vuelta a España, UAE Team’s Jasper Philipsen won the greatest career victory ahead of Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Jannik Steimle (Deceuninck-Quick Step).

The UAE Team Emirates saw the longest stage of this Vuelta, 230.8 km from Mos to Puebla de Sanabria, in operation from the outset. In the party of riders that animated the day, Rui Costa battled his way through it.

Jasper Philipsen made it

The UAE squad pressed in the final to get the lone leader back to allow Philipsen to fight for the stage and take his first Grand Tour victory.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling I can’t explain, Philipsen said. This triumph is very important to me, I’ve been looking for the right moment in the Vuelta, and it has finally come. I didn’t think it could be my day at the beginning of the stage, but I was finally ready for a final that turned out to be perfect for me.”

Jasper Philipsen dominated Vuelta

The Belgian victory marks the first UAE Team Emirates achievement in this Vuelta a Espana and tops the team’s impressive season, winning all three Grand Tours.

Tomorrow’s 16th stage goes from Salamanca to Ciudad Rodrigo (162 km).
