Hundreds of thousands of users around the world were affected by an outage of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp Business, all owned by Meta.
The disruptions began around 3:00 AM GMT.
Over 300,000 users reported Facebook outages and around 40,000 reported issues with Instagram, according to Downdetector, a website that tracks web outages.
Andy Stone, a Meta spokesperson, acknowledged on the social media platform X that the company is aware of the access problems and is working to resolve them.
Meta’s status dashboard also indicated issues with the WhatsApp Business API.
While Downdetector identified around 200 reports of WhatsApp outages.
Elon Musk Mocks Meta After Facebook and Instagram Outage
Tech mogul Elon Musk took a jab at Meta after Facebook and Instagram services went down globally on Tuesday.
Musk included a post by Meta’s head of communications, Andy Stone.
Featuring an illustration of three penguins with the logos of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads saluting another penguin wearing sunglasses and a military commander’s uniform with the “X” logo.
Musk sarcastically wrote on his X account, “If you can read this, our servers are working.”
This is not the first time Musk has taken aim at Meta.
In January, he tweeted that Facebook was “boring” and that he was “thinking of deleting” his account.
Meta Services Restored After Global Outage
Facebook and Instagram services returned after the global outage.
Andy Stone, a Meta spokesperson, said in a post on the social media platform X:
“Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing our services. We have resolved the issue…
We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was affected, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
Meta has not yet disclosed the specific cause of the outage.
But it is likely due to a problem with the company’s infrastructure.

Meta has experienced a global outage before.
In October 2021, a major outage affected Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for several hours.
However, the company has apologized for the inconvenience and said it is working to prevent similar outages from happening in the future.
