Russia Develops AI Powered Drones For Building Issues
Moscow Aviation Institute has announced the development of new AI powered drones.
Those new drones will monitor the construction processes and detect the structural defects in buildings.
According to a statement from the institute’s press service:
“Our experts have developed new drones used to monitor construction processes.
Those AI powered drones are equipped with advanced technologies and software that allow them to detect structural defects in buildings.
We have developed two drones and delivered them for real-world testing.”
New Cost-effective Tools That Replace Foreign Product
The statement added: “Previously, experts in Russia used simple tools to monitor construction.
Followed by the introduction of small electronic devices that reduced the need for human involvement and facilitated this process.
However, with sanctions imposed on Russia, these devices have become less available and cost tens of millions of rubles.
As a result, there was a need to develop new, cost-effective tools to replace foreign equipment.
The important thing is that the new drones and their software were entirely developed at our institute.”
Technologies Related to Machine Vision
Regarding the matter, Maxim Kalyagin, chief designer of the institute’s unmanned vehicle development department, said:
“The drones we have developed are on par with their counterparts.
Our institute has worked for several years on the development of technologies related to machine vision.
We also created equipment used in monitoring the construction of thermal power plants and mineral extraction mines.”
Kalyagin also pointed out that they supported the new drones with artificial intelligence technologies.
So the drones can determine their location and move independently within buildings.
Those AI powered drones can also fit with various equipment.
Such as high-definition video cameras and infrared cameras, according to “Russia Today.”
