This statement came during His Highness’s chairmanship of the Cabinet meeting held at Expo City Dubai, coinciding with COP28.
The meeting resulted in the approval of 10 new initiatives and resolutions designed to achieve the UAE’s new national environmental targets.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviewed the UAE’s environmental achievements
The UAE environmental achievements included over 120 resolutions on sustainability and climate change.
In addition to natural resource development issued by the Cabinet in the past five years.
In 2023 alone, the UAE launched over 60 new resolutions, forming a comprehensive framework of policies, legislation and strategies.
As well as many initiatives to strengthen the country’s efforts.
And also to solidify its position in the global fight against climate change.
These national strategies and policies have yielded significant results.
By propelling the UAE to the second position globally in energy transition according to the 2023 Global Green Future Index (GFI).
The UAE also ranks sixth globally in per capita solar energy consumption.
It also has invested over $50 billion in clean energy projects across 70 countries.
And it pledged an additional $50 billion investment in the sector over the next decade.

New Resolutions:
- The Cabinet approved 10 new initiatives and resolutions to achieve the UAE’s new national environmental targets. These include:
- The General Framework for the Biodiversity Strategy 2031, aimed at monitoring, protecting, and ensuring the sustainability of natural systems while enhancing national expertise in this field.
- A global initiative for carbon removal from the waste sector.
- The launch of a National Carbon Credit Registry.
As well as enabling public and private institutions to assess and document their contributions to carbon reduction with verified government certificates. - The Fifth National Communication Report to be submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, documenting the success of national efforts in reducing carbon emissions across various sectors.
- The first edition of the report on the UAE’s Long-Term Low-Carbon Development Strategy.
- The establishment of the Emirates Electric Vehicles Charging Stations Company.
- The launch of a policy for sustainable aviation fuel and smart construction in the country.
