Mohamed bin Zayed and Angela Merkel discuss countering extremism

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Angela Merkel German Chancellor stressing the importance of enhancing mutual relations as part of the existing overall strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany, and the need to combat extremism in all its forms.

This came during a phone call that Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received from German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

In a tweet, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said: “I received a phone call from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during which we discussed developments in the strategic relations between the two countries, the importance of combating extremism in all its forms, in addition to intensifying our efforts to promote dialogue between cultures and beliefs at the regional and international levels.”

UAE and Germany strategic partnership

The contact between Mohamed bin Zayed and Angela Merkel also dealt with bilateral relations and means of supporting, enhancing them within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership existing between the two countries, and a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

The two sides: Mohamed bin Zayed and Angela Merkel stressed their rejection of extremism and terrorism in all their forms and the importance of strengthening international action to confront them, and intensifying joint efforts to support and encourage dialogue between religions and cultures at the regional and global levels.

During Mohamed bin Zayed and Angela Merkel phone call, they discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region, as the two sides affirmed their support for settling differences through dialogue and peaceful means.

Mohamed bin Zayed and Angela Merkel also discussed developments in the “Corona” pandemic in the two countries and the world and the importance of strengthening joint international action to address it and contain its effects during the current and coming period.

The assurances of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan came amid a wave of terrorist operations striking Europe, the most recent of which was in the Austrian capital Vienna, which resulted in deaths and injuries of civilians, a few days after the ‘terrorist’ operation in France.
