UAE Midday Work Ban: A cornerstone of the UAE’s labor market regulations
The United Arab Emirates is continuing its policy of midday work ban for the 20th year in a row.
This rule is in place from June 15th to September 15th every year.
It aims to protect workers from the dangers of working under the hot sun during the summer months.
Aligning with best practices in occupational health and safety, the midday work ban is a cornerstone of the UAE’s labor market regulations.

Companies are required to provide shaded areas for workers during the ban.
In addition to cooling equipment, water, hydration supplies, rest areas, and first-aid kits.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization monitors compliance through inspections and reports from the public.
One example of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to protect workers is the initiative to create 6,000 rest areas for delivery service workers.
This program, established in collaboration with government and private entities, allows delivery personnel to access cool and comfortable spaces during their breaks.
Other ministerial initiatives include improving worker accommodation.
This is through the launch of the electronic “Labor Accommodation System”.

Labor Accommodation System is the first national platform for registering worker housing.
This system aims to ensure workers have access to proper and safe housing that meets their needs.
The UAE offers a comprehensive social protection system for workers, including:
- Unemployment insurance
- Voluntary gratuity end-of-service alternative (known as the “savings system”)
- A program to protect workers’ financial entitlements
- Wage protection system
- Robust occupational health and safety framework in the labor market.
