MENA Climate Week addressed the latest climate change issues in a way that supports COP28 Goals.
The Middle East and North Africa Climate Week (MENACW) is an event by the United Nations.
The Saudi capital Riyadh hosted this event recently.
MENA Climate Week served as an effective qualifying process for countries, institutions, and organizations to participate in COP28.
Mentioning that COP 28 will take place in Dubai Expo City from November 30 to December 12 of this year.
Over 1000 Speakers discussed Important Climate Issues during MENA Climate Week.
During the week, there were more than 100 panel discussions and workshops.
As well as side events with the participation of more than 1,000 speakers from more than 100 countries.
These events covered a wide range of climate change issues, including:
- Climate finance
- Deployment of clean technologies
- Regional energy cooperation
- Adaptation to the impacts of climate change
The participants in MENACW issued a joint statement.
By which they emphasized the importance of collective action to address climate change.
They also confirmed their full support for the UAE as it will host COP28 this year.
Outcomes of MENACW
The most prominent outcomes of MENACW are as follows:
Emphasis on the importance of joint financing for climate action.
As well as the need for more financing by developed countries to support developing countries.
Moreover, all countries have to accelerate the transition to clean energy.
By using new technologies to reduce carbon emissions.
Regional cooperation in the field of energy is also needed besides exchanging expertise and experiences between countries.
Also, countries should adapt to the impacts of climate change by taking the necessary measures of protection against natural disasters.
Importance of MENACW
MENACW events are an important step on the road to COP28.
As they have contributed to the exchange of information and expertise between various stakeholders in climate change.
And also it has enhanced regional cooperation in this field.
COP28 is expected to be a historic opportunity to take concrete steps to address climate change.
