The Vice President and Managing Director of Dubai Media Council, Director General of the Dubai Government Media Office, Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri, affirmed that the Emirati media institutions have realized the requirements of keeping up with The Fourth Industrial Revolution, and proceeded with directives to enhance their capabilities in order to enable them to reserve an advanced position in them within the sectors.

This came in a speech delivered by His Excellency remotely via video communication technology before the opening session of the “Future of Media in the World” conference organized by the Ministry of State for Information in the Arab Republic of Egypt and in which the Prime Minister of Egypt, His Excellency Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and the Minister of State for Information, His Excellency Osama Heikal, former Spanish Foreign Minister and former United Nations envoy to the Middle East, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, with the participation of several ministers and government officials in many countries, executive leaders of media institutions, international parties concerned with media work, and influencers on social media platforms in the region.

Her Excellency showed the media has already crossed the threshold of a new phase that its features have manifested clearly, and the most important of which is the huge spread of social media platforms, which imposed new rules for media work that changed many of the traditional concepts and tools of media, and even changed its image and content, confirming that the word “Creativity” will be the headline of the next stage.

Her Excellency Mona Al Marri reviewed a set of examples of the latest global trends in the media field and gave an example in the television broadcasting sector, which has already entered a new turn in its history with the spread of “video-on-demand” services, which makes up a remarkable development in this field, especially considering the increase in Internet ranges.

During her participation in the Global Media Future conference, Her Excellency touched on the broad effects of the spread of the new COVID-19 epidemic on the media sector, as market studies show that this crisis during the year 2020 has contributed to speeding up the pace of media development, As the precautionary measures that were applied around the world in the epidemic’s face forced the creation of new media consumption patterns that led to an increase in the speed of transformation to digital alternatives.

Her Excellency said the initiatives are taken by media institutions to adjust their conditions in line with the new media reality created by this crisis and prepare for a new phase of growth after overcoming it, bearing in mind that the world is now heading towards paid media, which increases the challenge and responsibility of those in charge media institutions.
