Maryam Al Balushi Head of the Environment Department at the General Civil Aviation Authority in the UAE chosen by ICAO and CAEP.
The Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) elected Engineer Maryam Al Balushi as Vice-Chair of the Committee.
This is in recognition of the efforts made by the UAE.
In addition to its influential role in leading a number of key files related to climate change and environmental protection.
Especially in the civil aviation sector at the regional and international levels.
This came during the second meeting of the steering team of the 13th session of the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection.
Which took place in Takamatsu City, Japan, from October 16 to 20, 2023.
Engineer Maryam Al Balushi File for the Aviation Sector, was elected by consensus of the 31 member states.
The election of the UAE’s representative to the post of Vice-Chair of the Committee is a new international vote of confidence.
The UAE is proud of it as it confirms the state’s leading role in this vital file.
It also translates the close cooperation and effective participation of the UAE in the work of International Civil Aviation Organization Committees.
Engineer Maryam Al Balushi has over 13 years of experience working as a member of the Committee.
She also participated in a number of related committees locally and regionally.
In addition, she cooperated with more than 25 experts in future fields of aviation, energy, and climate change file.
The UAE represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority will surely continue its role in enhancing regional and international efforts.
And will keep on contributing to achieve a qualitative shift in climate change file in the civil aviation sector.
The aviation sector occupies an important place on the global agenda related to the climate change.
As there are requirements to reduce international carbon emissions.
And the aviation sector accounts for more than 2% of global carbon emissions.
The Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection of the ICAO is the advisory arm of the international organization.
Which is concerned with discussing technical matters, legislation and policies.
In addition to strategies that help the organization make key decisions regarding the climate change and environment file.
ICAO is also concerned with achieving the international goal of reaching carbon neutrality for the aviation sector by 2050.
In accordance with the decisions of the 41st Assembly on Climate Change – October 2022.
ICAO is also the largest committee on the level of the organization’s committees.
As it includes over 1,000 experts and specialists from all member states and strategic partners in the aviation sector.
It is worth noting that the UAE will host the third Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels of ICAO in November 2023.
Which represents the largest international gathering of decision-makers in the civil aviation sector.
