H.E Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), participated in a mangrove tree planting campaign at Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary.
DEWA in collaboration with Emirates Marine Environmental Group have organized this campaign.
Mentioning that it aims at planting 4,500 mangrove saplings.
Mangrove Tree Planting Campaign saw the participation of officials and employees from DEWA and some of its subsidiary companies.
As well as a group of students from the DEWA Academy.
Awareness Campaigns
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer stated:
“We continue to support biodiversity and the preservation of both terrestrial and marine environments.
By launching environmental and awareness campaigns.
These initiatives aim to engage all community members in efforts to conserve precious natural resources, plant more trees, and improve water quality.
We are committed to supporting the national initiative to plant 100 million mangrove trees in the UAE by 2030.
In addition to enhancing the sustainability of mangrove forests.
As they are among the most important nature-based solutions to address climate change and protect coastal ecosystems.”
Growing Participation
Al Tayer praised the increasing participation in DEWA’s campaigns.
As they aim to boost the involvement of institutions and individuals in efforts to create a positive and sustainable impact.
He commended the participants for their spirit of volunteerism and their dedication to protecting the environment and wildlife.
5,500 Trees Planted in 2023 Mangrove Tree Planting Campaign
In 2023, DEWA planted more than 5,500 mangrove trees in the Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary.
This was with the participation of over 1,000 individuals, including:
- DEWA employees and their families
- Employees from some of DEWA’s subsidiaries
- Students from DEWA Academy

The participants logged 2,080 volunteer hours, with a satisfaction rate of 92.9%.
As part of its beach cleanup campaigns at the sanctuary, DEWA collected 3,100 kilograms of waste.
Along with 8 tons of algae and seaweed that had accumulated on the shore, used in scientific research to study marine environments.
