Today, the UAE participates with the world in its celebration of the ” International Day of Charity”, which falls on September 5 of each year, and has a long and distinguished history in the field of charitable and humanitarian work, during which it contributed to alleviating the suffering of the needy and extending a hand of aid and assistance to all peoples of the world.

The occasion this year is of exceptional importance due to its coincidence with the crisis of the spread of the emerging coronavirus, during which the UAE struck the finest examples of solidarity with all countries of the world, standing by it in the face of the repercussions of the pandemic, and providing all aspects of support and relief.
The UAE aid planes reached all parts of the globe, and its close cooperation with the World Health Organization was a decisive factor in accelerating the international response to combat the spread of the virus.

The efforts made by the UAE to support the countries of the world were not limited to providing medical and relief assistance but also included the return of the nationals of many brotherly and friendly countries stranded outside their countries as well, as it allowed them to return to their countries safely.
It also hosted a group of them in the International Humanitarian City and provided the patients with the necessary medical care.

UAE charitable work for human value
The UAE attaches great importance to charitable work as it is a human value based on giving and giving in all its forms, and today it is one of the few countries that translated the meaning of wealth into thought and human participation that includes the entire world without favour or investment in a narrow interest.
It was also one of the first countries that rushed to institutionalize charitable work and turn it into a culture and societal behaviour rooted in the Emirati personality.
For many years, the UAE occupied the first place in the world as the largest donor of foreign aid in the world in relation to its national income, at a rate of 1.31% of its total income, which is double the required global percentage, which was set by the United Nations at 0.7%.
UAE civil charitable institutions
The civil charitable institutions and organizations in the Emirates represent a basic tributary and an important factor in the success of the official or governmental humanitarian work process, and this was clearly demonstrated during the donation campaigns and humanitarian initiatives that the wise leadership directed to relief the afflicted and the needy in many countries of the world.
At least 45 donors, humanitarian institutions and charities work in the UAE to extend a helping hand to the needy in various countries of the world and attach utmost importance to providing protection for workers in this field and providing emergency relief materials to those affected by crises and humanitarian emergencies in the world.
Emirates Red Crescent Authority
The “Emirates Red Crescent Authority” is one of the most prominent humanitarian charitable institutions in the country that, during the 37 years since its establishment, has accumulated a wealth of humanity, giving and solidarity with the needy peoples of the world, who have been subjected to multiple calamities and crises, which have put them under the weight of difficult circumstances and called for standing by them and not giving up. On her behalf, to preserve her dignity and establish a life of peace, stability and a sustainable future.
The number of beneficiaries of the programs and local aid implemented by the authority inside the country during the year 2019 reached more than one million people, citizens and residents of 87 nationalities, at a cost of 140 million 674 thousand and 326 dirhams.
Social assistance amounted to 115 million and 281 thousand dirhams, while seasonal projects amounted to 30 million and 495 thousand and 533 dirhams.
At the external level, the value of the relief operations carried out by the authority outside the country during the first nine months of last year amounted to 50 million 231 thousand and 778 dirhams, of which 2 million 142 thousand and 878 people benefited from the Yemeni people and the Syrian refugees, and those affected by the events of Myanmar and those affected by disasters. The authority sponsors more than 114,000 orphans in the UAE and in 25 countries around the world, while more than 11 million people benefit from its Ramadan programs and projects in 80 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation is the largest in the region in the field of humanitarian work, and since its inception, the Foundation’s mission on humanitarian work, in both its development and relief parts, has crystallized, as it is the basis for building cohesive societies, preserves the dignity of humanity and contributes to upholding the values
The Foundation’s spending in 2019 amounted to 1.3 billion dirhams as part of its development, humanitarian, knowledge, empowerment and relief initiatives, which benefited more than 71 million people in 108 countries.
The humanitarian and relief aid axis is one of the five axes under the supervision of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, in addition to spreading education and knowledge, health care and disease control, future innovation and leadership, and community empowerment.
In turn, the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation is one of the most prominent arms of charitable work in the UAE.
The Foundation’s assistance includes various sectors, most notably health, education and relief, in addition to establishing cultural, humanitarian and scientific research centres, schools, public and higher education institutes and public libraries.
The “Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Work” is considered one of the most prominent charitable institutions that have contributed to strengthening the UAE’s position on the map of humanitarian work regionally and globally.
The Foundation’s assistance varied to include many projects, including breakfast for those fasting inside and outside the UAE, helping those affected by natural disasters, wars and development projects, providing in-kind and material assistance to needy students, the subsidized food commodities project in the northern regions, the health treatment program, the initiative to support national families inside the Emirates and many more.
