International Day for Tolerance coincides with the UAE’s National Festival of Tolerance
Tomorrow, the UAE will celebrate “International Day for Tolerance”.
This occasion is celebrated annually on November 16 as designated by the United Nations to encourage tolerance, unity, and coexistence.
However, the International Day for Tolerance coincides with the UAE’s 6th annual National Festival of Tolerance, organized by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, running from 11 to 18 November.

The festival includes a diverse range of international, public, and government activities.
Such as the annual Government as an Incubator for Tolerance.
As well as the inaugural International Forum on Global Faith and Culture, held in partnership with Austria at the Abrahamic Family House.
Public activities include cultural and artistic events held at Umm Al Emarat Park, drawing broad participation from all segments of society.
The festival will conclude with the Ministry’s participation in the “UAE as a Homeland of Tolerance” conference at the UAE University in Al Ain.
Which brings together thought leaders, religious figures, and prominent thinkers from across the globe.
UAE Contributions To Support International Tolerance 2024
During 2024, the UAE continued its significant role in promoting tolerance and moderation.
In February, it hosted the “Global Tolerance Alliance,” which focuses on strengthening human values and fostering a brighter future for humanity.
Where the “Joint Global Call for Tolerance and Coexistence” was issued.
The UAE also held the “International Dialogue of Civilizations & Tolerance Conference”.
This was to discuss scientific approaches to promote tolerance besides understanding cultural and social differences.
In August, the UAE launched the “Ambassadors of Tolerance” program.
This program empowers women as advocates of tolerance within their families and communities.
The UAE is Among the Top 20 Tolerance Leaders
Over the years, the UAE has become a leader in global tolerance and coexistence indicators.
The UAE ranked among the top 20 countries worldwide, some of these initiatives include:
- Establishing Hedayah Center in 2013 as the first independent research center to counter violent extremism.
- Founding the Muslim Council of Elders in 2014, an independent body promoting peace in the Islamic world.
- The UAE passed anti-discrimination and anti-hate legislation in 2015.
- Establishing the Ministry of Tolerance in 2016.
- Adopting a National Tolerance Program in 2020.
- Founding the International Institute for Tolerance in 2017.

- Creating the Global Council for Tolerance in 2018.
- Dedicating a “Year of Tolerance” in 2019.
- Contributing to the signing of a “Document on Human Fraternity” in 2019.
- The inauguration of the Abrahamic Family House in 2019.
- Leading the adoption of Resolution 2686 at UN Security Council in June 2023.
The UAE has also Launched numerous international awards for peaceful coexistence
Those international awards include Zayed Award for Human Fraternity and Mohammed bin Rashid Tolerance Award.
As well as Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Peace Award, and Emirates Global Award for Peace Poets.
