International Clean Energy Day Innovation Welcomed by the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment Maryam bint Mohammed Almheiri.
Minister Maryam Almheiri welcomed the United Nations General Assembly‘s decision to designate January 26 as International Clean Energy Day.
She said that this is a major step that will encourage the world to adopt solutions.
In order to accelerate the energy transition and reach emissions reduction targets by 2030.
Almheiri noted that the decision is a result of joint efforts between the UAE and Panama in submitting a resolution to the UN.
This demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to promoting clean energy solutions on a global scale.
Besides encouraging countries to prioritize these solutions in their efforts to accelerate the transition to clean energy systems.
The energy transition is one of the key pillars of COP28.
She said that accelerating the energy transition is one of the key pillars of COP28, which the UAE will host in Dubai in November 2023.
This transition must be fair and take into account energy security.
As well as the availability of financing and technology.
Clean energy technology is one of the most important solutions in the energy transition.
Almheiri said that the UAE has a leading experience in the transition to clean energy systems.
The UAE has invested over $57 billion in local and global clean energy projects.
Moreover, the UAE has a partnership with the USA to invest $100 billion in clean energy projects with a combined capacity of 100 gigawatts by 2035.
Voluntary climate commitments
The UAE has voluntary climate commitments, including a 40% reduction in emissions compared to business-as-usual by 2030.
In order to meet these commitments, the UAE has updated its Energy Strategy 2050 and launched a National Hydrogen Strategy.
Almheiri said that these efforts are helping to build the country as a global model for clean energy.
Along with the operation of the Barakah nuclear power plants and a number of the world’s largest solar power plants in the UAE.
Surely this will encourage the world to adopt effective and impactful solutions in its journey towards sustainable future.
She affirmed that the UAE will always be at the forefront of countries working to achieve these goals.
