The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has honored HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, also known as “Mother of the Nation.”
This recognition celebrates her outstanding contributions to women’s empowerment and sustainable development at both the national and international levels.
The ceremony took place in Abu Dhabi at the headquarters of the General Women’s Union.
Marking the 80th anniversary of FAO’s founding in collaboration with UN Women.

On behalf of Her Highness, Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, received the honor.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials and representatives from diplomatic missions in the UAE.
It highlighted HH Sheikha Fatima legacy in empowering women and supporting their role in sustainable development.
A special video presentation showed Sheikha Fatima’s efforts in women’s empowerment on both national and global levels.
Showing key initiatives she has launched to strengthen women’s roles across various sectors.
The presentation also underscored her pioneering contributions to sustainable development, poverty eradication, and the fight against hunger.

Efforts Made by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak to Empower Women
Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi emphasized the UAE’s dedication to community development and global sustainability initiatives, which has become a fundamental pillar of the country’s foreign policy.
She credited the UAE’s leadership and HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak vision for enabling significant progress in women’s empowerment, stating:
“At the General Women’s Union, we work under Her Highness guidance to ensure the integration of women in all development plans and programs, recognizing their essential leadership role.”
A Historic Partnership
Kayan Akram Jaf, Head of the FAO Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Yemen, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development.
He emphasized the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may he rest in peace, as an inspiration for global efforts to combat hunger and poverty.
Jaf also pointed to the “Sheikh Zayed Center for Media and Knowledge” at FAO’s headquarters in Rome.

Dr. Mouza Al Shehhi, Director of the UN Women Liaison Office for the GCC, welcomed the well-deserved recognition of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
