UAE Tops Medal Tally at Gulf Youth Games
The United Arab Emirates topped the medal table at the first Gulf Youth Games.
This is by winning 37 medals by the end of the second day of competition on Wednesday.
The UAE’s medal haul included 9 golds, 21 silvers, and 7 bronzes.
18 Medals for UAE’s Taekwondo Athletes
Kuwait came in second place with 27 medals (8 golds, 8 silvers, and 11 bronzes),.
Followed by Saudi Arabia in third place with 18 medals (7 golds, 5 silvers, and 6 bronzes).
Oman finished fourth with 12 medals (9 golds, 3 silvers), Bahrain fifth with 8 medals (3 golds, 5 bronzes), and Qatar sixth with 4 medals (1 gold, 3 bronzes).
UAE taekwondo athletes raised their total number of medals to 18 on the second day, including 6 golds.
Among the highlights were gold medals for:
Arooj Saleh in the under-42kg weight category, Mohammed Al-Zahouri in the under-63kg weight category, and Amna Al-Loghani in the under-59kg weight category.
The UAE also won 9 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
While the UAE national modern sailing team won the silver medal in the team race (Optimist).
More Competition
Friday’s competitions will see the start of the chess competition.
This is at the Sharjah Chess Cultural Club and badminton at the Fujairah Zayed Sports Complex.
Sailing competitions will continue at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.
There will also be two football matches at the Al Nahyan Stadium at Al Wahda Club:
The first between the UAE and Bahrain national teams, and the second between Kuwait and Oman.
Athletics competitions for people with disabilities will also continue at the Dubai Police Officers Club.
The final day will include six competitions.
Including the 100m (wheelchair), shot put (seated), shot put (standing), discus, 200m (wheelchair), and 800m (wheelchair).
The Gulf Youth Games Technical Meeting
The organizing committee of the athletics championship for people with disabilities at the Gulf Youth Games held a technical meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the delegations participating in the championship, under the supervision of the UAE Paralympic Committee.
A workshop was also held to discuss the medical classification of athletes with disabilities on the 17th and 18th of this month.
The technical meeting discussed all technical and organizational matters related to all the sporting events that will take place at the first Gulf Youth Games.
It also discussed ways to develop the technical and organizational aspects to be adopted in future tournaments.

The medical classification workshop covered the concepts and axes of medical classification for all athletes with disabilities.
It also discussed methods of assessing physical disability and technical assessment.
As well as minimum disability criteria, and medical classification methods according to the degree of disability.
There was also a presentation on the sports classifications for athletes with disabilities.
