UAE jiu-jitsu team is ready for the Grand Prix Championship in Thailand
Our national jiu-jitsu team successfully completed the official weigh-in procedures for their participation in the Grand Prix Championship in Thailand.
The championship attracts more than 300 male and female players from 31 countries worldwide.
Mentioning that the competitions will take place on June 22 and 23.
H.E Mohammed Salim Al Zaabi, Deputy Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, emphasized the importance of participating in this championship.
It comes after our national team’s victory in the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Abu Dhabi last May.
Upcoming Participations
Now, the team is preparing for upcoming continental and global events, including:
- World Championship in Greece
- Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand
- As well as other prestigious competitionsThe team aims to achieve commendable results and raise the UAE flag on the podiums.
Al Zaabi stated:
“The success of all team members in passing the weigh-in phase reflects the tremendous efforts made during the preparation period for the championship.
The players’ professionalism and commitment to the coaching staff’s guidance qualify them to compete strongly and excel against some of the world’s best players”.
The players are well aware of the significance of Grand Prix tournaments.
And also of their contribution to elevate the UAE’s national team ranking approved by the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
This ranking gives the team an advantage in terms of draw and scheduling for the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Greece in October.
19 Players
The national team delegation to Grand Prix Championship consists of 19 experienced, young, and emerging male and female players.
Many of them have previously achieved international successes and won medals in various competitions.
Among them are:
- Rashid Al Shihhi, Omar Al Suwaidi, and Mohammed Al Kitbi in the 56 kg weight category.
- Mayed Al Shihhi and Khaled Al Balushi in the 62 kg weight category.
- Mohammed Al Suwaidi and Sultan Hassan in the 69 kg weight category.
- Mahdi Al Awlaqi and Sultan Al Housani in the 77 kg weight category.
- Saeed Al Kubaisi in the 85 kg weight category.
- Haza’a Farhan in the +94 kg weight category.

In the women’s category, the team includes:
- Balqees Abdul Kareem and Aisha Al Shamsi in the 45 kg weight category.
- Maitha Shuraim in the 48 kg weight category.
- Asma Al Housani in the 52 kg weight category.
- Anoud Al Housani in the 57 kg weight category.
- Shama Al Kalbani and Bushra Al Matroushi in the 63 kg weight category.
- Mehera Mahfouz in the 70 kg weight category.
