Gulf of America on Google Maps
Returning to the story, last Friday, the Department of the Interior under President Donald Trump’s administration announced that it had officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
It also had renamed Denali Peak in Alaska, the highest mountain in North America, to Mount McKinley.
Google Maps, owned by Alphabet’s Google, will make a similar change for Mount McKinley.
Mentioning that Trump ordered the name change as part of a series of executive actions issued just hours after taking office on January 20, fulfilling campaign promises.

What is the New Name of the Highest Peak in North America ?
The Department of the Interior stated in a press release last week:
“Under the President’s directive, the Gulf of Mexico will now officially be known as the Gulf of America.
And the highest peak in North America will once again carry the name Mount McKinley.”
Earlier this month, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum jokingly suggested renaming North America, including the United States, to “Mexican America,” a historical name used on an early map of the region.
A Google spokesperson referred Reuters to the company’s post on X when asked for a comment on the matter.
