The United Arab Emirates participated in the ministerial meeting of the “Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS” held in Washington, D.C.
The UAE delegation was led by His Excellency Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations Affairs.
The meeting discussed international efforts to address the growing threats posed by Daesh.
Particularly in conflict-affected areas, with a focus on security risks and humanitarian challenges.
What is the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS ?
The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS (also known as DAESH or ISIL) was formed in September 2014 in response to the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
It is a multinational effort that brings together over 85 countries and partner organizations to counter Daesh’s influence, disrupt its operations, and prevent its resurgence.
The coalition’s approach involves not only military action.
But also a comprehensive strategy that addresses the group’s financial networks, ideological propaganda, and the humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict.
Combat terrorism and promote regional and global stability.
Participants in the ministerial meeting also explored ways to enhance international cooperation.
This is to ensure the sustainability of gains made in combating the terrorist organization and to stabilize liberated areas.
In his speech during the meeting, His Excellency Al Shamsi reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting international efforts to combat terrorism and promote regional and global stability.
He highlighted the UAE’s active role through its participation in various working groups within the coalition.
Including the Communications and Stabilization groups.

He also emphasized the need to address the root causes that fuel terrorism.
Noting that sustainable solutions require comprehensive international cooperation.
Including development, humanitarian assistance for affected communities, and raising awareness among the youth.
At the conclusion of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS meeting, the coalition reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination to confront common threats.
And also to work towards enhancing security and stability in areas impacted by Daesh and other terrorist groups.
