General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior – H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed was selected as the Deputy Prime Minister in 2009, and has reserved his position as the Minister of Interior in the United Arab Emirates’ Federal Government since 2004.
General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan was born in the city of Al Ain in 1969.
The Ministry of Interior undertakes several key responsibilities, namely, protecting internal security, coordinating cooperation between police agencies. Operating in the country, regulating Naturalization Affairs and Foreigners’ Entry and Residence, supervising civil defense responsibilities, and coordinating traffic issues. H.H. has served as the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Police since 1995, in addition to being Head of the Federal Demographic Structure Council since 2009 and Vice Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority.
Duringhis professional life, His Highness administered the worksto promote the societal role acceptedby the Ministry of Interior through numerous creativities. He also supervised the establishment of the Community Police,the Social Support Centres, the Centres for Rehabilitation and Employment of People with Special Needs,and the MOI’s Child Protection Centre,alongside the schemesto normalisethe traffic databases at the UAE level.
His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior asserted that the UAE under its wise leadership is adamant in its determinations to improve digital life safety and protect peoples from online fears. The focus of the National Agenda for Wellbeing on the quality of digital life reflects that, and constitute a response for a need in the community and a core support for the fathers, mothers and the community at large.
In 2010, Sheikh Saif was givenan Honorary Doctorate Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom. He gaineda Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain. In 1990, he passed the graduates course at the Police College and the superiortraining session for paratroopers. He successfully accomplished the Investigation Course in the United Kingdom in 1991.
In 2013, H.H. was voted “Personality of the Year for Family Consistency and Social Security” by the Arab Family Organization. He was also presentedseveral medals and honours, including the Order of Merit of the International Civil Defense Organisation, and the Red Crescent Charitable Medal.
Earlier to his governmental nomination in October 2004, His Highness Sheikh Saif engaged in several leadership positions. He was the second-in-command director of the headquarters police from 1994 to 1995 before fitting the director general of the Abu Dhabi Police on 23 October 1995. On 25 December 1997, he became the undersecretaryof the ministry of interior, retaining this post until his appointment as minister of interior on 2 November 2004.
On 30 December 2004, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. In add-on, he was selectedMinister of Interior to the government led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the same day. He was named as the deputy prime minister on 11 May 2009, preserving his post as interior minister.
