GCAA (General Civil Aviation Authority) launches the UAE Free Airspace Project.
A transformative initiative that aims to enhance the country’s position at the aviation sector in the region.
Certainly the project aims to improve the efficiency of air navigation and optimize the use of resources and energies.
As well as utilize the modern concepts in air traffic management.
The application of this project will have a positive impact on the aviation sector and the environment alike.
Due to the fact that the Free Airspace Project aims to improve the efficiency of air navigation in the country.
Since it aims to provide freedom of aircraft movement without the constraints of traditional air routes.
Highlighting that the UAE is the first country to implement the Free Airspace Project in the Middle East.
Transformative Project.
We should mention that this transformative project will provide the UAE’s airspace with high flexibility.
Also it will encourage the airlines to use it more, as it will reduce air congestion.
As well as contributing to shorten flight duration and increasing the efficiency of air travel.
Furthermore, it will lead to significant environmental benefits by reducing the distances and shortening flight paths.
Since aircraft will consume less fuel and reduce carbon emissions and environmental pollution.
For sure this will positively impact environmental sustainability and contribute to its concepts in line with the UAE’s government goals.
This project is considered one of the transformative projects within the performance agreements for federal government entities for 2022.
They were signed in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
This transformative project aligns with the UAE’s announcement of 2023 as the Year of Sustainability.
Also, it supports the General Civil Aviation Authority’s goal of committing to national priorities and the new government work methodology for the UAE.
In line with the broader concept of transformative projects.
The concept of transformative projects aims to drive the UAE development to the next decade and beyond.
In addition, the project closely aligns with the comprehensive strategy implemented in the UAE.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, General Director of GCAA, expressed his pride and pleasure due to this unique transformative project.
What’s more, it’s expected to benefit more than 150 daily flights.
As well as leading to annual saving of over 30 million kilograms of fuel and operational savings.
Approximately, savings will exceed AED 50 million for airlines, in addition to indirect operational benefits.
In the coming years, the number of flights benefiting from the project will continue to increase.
Which will be an attraction factor for all airlines.
Also it will lead to improved financial performance for airlines, by enhancing their economy, happiness and quality of life.
Ahmed Ibrahim Al Jallaf, General-Director Assistant of Air Navigation Services, mentioned that the aviation sector in the UAE is on continuous rise this year.
Also, he pointed out that the average air traffic exceeded 2,500 flights per day in June 2023 and that the UAE is one of the first countries to restore air traffic to pre-pandemic levels.
Besides that he expects a growth in air traffic to nearly 900,000 flights by the end of the year.
Clearly it’s an increase of over 10% from pre-pandemic levels.
Saqr Obeid Al Merashdah, the project manager, stated that this pioneering step is the first step in a comprehensive plan to apply free airspace on a larger scale.
According to carefully studied stages aimed at improving the infrastructure of airspace.
Also, the maximum benefit of this concept will be achieved when this transformative project is applied on a larger scale by connecting with the Gulf and regional navigation network.
He clarified that the UAE demonstrates its ability to lead the aviation sector by providing and applying free airspace.
Along with reflecting its commitment to adopting modern concepts to achieve progress and development in the aviation sector.
As well as creating a UAE model that can be emulated in global forums.
The General Civil Aviation Authority’s application of free airspace is an exceptional achievement that enhances the efficiency of air navigation.
