GCAA issued Regulation About the seventh freedom of Air Rights.
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in the United Arab Emirates has issued a new regulation governing the exercise of the seventh freedom of air rights.
This is a major milestone for the aviation sector in the UAE and reflects the authority’s commitment to making the sector more open and interconnected at the regional and global levels.
About the seventh freedom of air rights
It is the privilege granted by one country to another to allow its airlines to operate air services between the territory of the granting country and any third country without the need for the flight to pass through the territory of the operating airline’s country.
This freedom gives airlines unprecedented flexibility.
By allowing them to increase their connectivity between destinations and boost global connectivity and economic growth.
Moreover, the new regulation will provide this freedom to UAE airlines that want to take advantage of it in foreign countries.
With which the UAE has air services agreements that include the seventh freedom of air rights.
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the GCAA, said:
“The UAE has attached great importance to the development of the aviation sector in line with the best international practices.
Since it is a key contributor to the growth and sustainability of the national economy.
Furthermore, the issuance of the new regulation is an important milestone in promoting international cooperation.
And also seamless global connectivity, in support of the UAE’s vast potential in the aviation sector and in stimulating growth and prosperity for our national economy.”
Al Marri added:
“National efforts continue to promote innovation and excellence in the civil aviation sector.
Especially as the regulation creates new opportunities to strengthen international partnerships in this vital sector .
Besides supporting the UAE’s position as a pioneer in promoting open skies.
Also strengthening the relations with countries around the world, and becoming a leading global and regional aviation destination.”
For his part, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, said:
“As the UAE continues to occupy a leading position in the international aviation community.
We are proud to regulate the seventh freedom of air rights.
This important decision reflects the state’s commitment to driving progress.
As well as the cooperation in the aviation sector by opening up new horizons for both UAE operators and foreign airlines.
This will pave the way for enhanced trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
We are confident that the seventh freedom of air rights regulation will further cement the UAE’s position as a leading global aviation hub.”
The new regulation will also benefit foreign operators that are seeking to exercise the seventh freedom of air rights.
This will be subject to the inclusion of seventh freedom of air rights in the relevant air services agreement and the approval of the relevant emirate.
The regulation will also open up new horizons for international cooperation, trade, and tourism.
