G20 Countries Invited to support the climate action by Dr. Al Jaber.
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and the designated President of COP28, has confirmed the commitment of the COP28 presidency to promoting effective cooperation.
As well as its commitment to make quality partnerships in order to achieve sustainable economic and social development.
In addition to making progress on climate action and engaging all stakeholders to build a better future for everyone.
Dr. Al Jaber has called on G20 countries to play a leading and positive role in achieving tangible and effective progress on climate action.
He explained that the decisions and commitments they make will have an impact on the outcomes of COP28 and the world.
Also, Dr. Al Jaber has confirmed that the COP28 presidency is calling on countries to intensify their work.
And focus on achieving progress in the “30 by 30” goal to protect biodiversity.
Which aims to conserve 30% of terrestrial and marine habitats by the end of the current decade.
Dr. Al Jaber has reiterated the need for a radical change and substantial progress on the issue of funding for adaptation.
Which currently does not exceed 10% of the amount allocated for mitigation.
Dr. Al Jaber has confirmed that doubling adaptation funding by 2025 is the first critical step required.
Moreover, he stressed that the world needs to explore the possibility of directing a significant portion of total climate finance towards adaptation responses.
He has pointed out that many of the countries most exposed to the effects of climate change.
Especially small island developing states and least developed countries.
Since we are facing negative effects of climate change that are beyond what humans can adapt to.
In conclusion, Dr. Al Jaber has said:
“We witness the severe negative effects of extreme weather events on a daily basis.
Extreme weather events are destroying the lives of ordinary people around the world.
We must think about those affected, and remind ourselves again that we need to stand together with them.
Also we should understand their suffering.
I always call on everyone to embody this spirit of solidarity in COP28.”
