The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it has completed the digital transformation of its parking permits service for older citizens and people of determination.
This step involved the transition from issuing cards to smart permits that do not need printing or displaying in the vehicle.
The permit also includes an additional feature that allows the user to add up to five vehicles to the permit.
(one main vehicle and four secondary vehicles).
The permit activation valid for one vehicle only at a time through the RTA’s website or smart app.
Through this initiative, the RTA is reaffirming its commitment to developing its services.
Also completing their transformation into smart and proactive services.
This is in line with the directives of the UAE government’s Smart City initiative.
As well as the RTA’s commitment to the highest standards of sustainability in service delivery.
It also aims to enhance the happiness of customers.
Especially older citizens and people of determination, who are an integral part of the UAE community.
In more detail, Eng. Osama Al Safi, Director of Parking Management at the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Corporation, said:
“The RTA is keen to develop the services provided to customers, based on its strategic goal of ‘Customer Happiness’.
Parking permits for older citizens and people of determination are among the RTA’s top priorities.
They are at the top of the list of services that we are seeking to automate.
And also to develop with smart features that do not require customers to visit Customer Happiness Centers.”
Al Safi Added: “Older citizens and people of determination can obtain a free parking permit through the RTA’s website, smart app, or Customer Happiness Centers”
The free parking permits for older citizens and people of determination include a range of services:

- Issuance and renewal of older citizen permits, which allows them to use public parking spaces free of charge.
If they provided that they do not use any reserved or designated parking spaces for a specific category. - People of determination (permanent) permits.
- Temporary people of determination permits.
- Tourist people of determination permits.
- Permits for people of determination rehabilitation centers.
- Permits for special medical cases, which allow them to use public parking spaces free of charge.
In addition to the parking spaces designated for people of determination.
Al Safai pointed out that customers will receive SMS notification to replace their permits.
They will receive an electronic link on their registered phone numbers with the RTA to activate the permit electronically.
The service will allow customers to choose one main vehicle that is permanently activated.
With the option of adding secondary vehicles.
Any of the secondary vehicles can be activated for a period of one hour, which can be renewed, through the RTA’s website or smart app.
The person authorized to use the permit must be present in the vehicle.
It is worth noting that the RTA has adopted the digital transformation of parking systems.
This includes payment methods such as the smart parking meter, new payment methods, the smart app.
As well as the smart inspection system responsible for non-paper violations, smart scanning vehicles, and the smart supervisor.
It also includes issuing electronic tickets by vehicle number through interactive touch screens (bilingual).
In addition to linking with a Nol card to save the vehicle number.
And also integration with the smart inspection system to display the electronic ticket in the smart app or on the website.
