First Emirati astronaut to start his mock mission

The first Emirati astronaut Hazza Al Mansoori will start his mock mission on Friday, before his Journey to the International Space Station (ISS) on September 25.

He will be accompanied by Sultan Al Neyadi, the reserve astronaut during the mock mission.

The mission will held for two-day at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in the Star City, near Moscow, before they blast off to the ISS, state news agency WAM reported.

Al Mansoori along with his crewmates – Nasa astronaut Jessica Meir and Russian commander Oleg Skripochka – for the trip onboard a Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft that will be launched from the BaikonurCosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The mock mission is a qualification examinations and simulations for the Russian Soyuz and Russian segment of the ISS.

Al Mansoori will take off to the ISS at exactly 5.56pm (UAE time) for an eight-day space mission.

He will lift off from from BaikonurCosmodrome in Kazakhstan on September 25.

The landing will take place on October 3 at 2.48pm (Kazakh time).

Al Mansoori will perform 16 scientific experiments during the mission, six of which will be conducted onboard the International Space Station.

He will return to Earth aboard a Soyuz-MS 12.
