Etihad Water and Electricity Uncovers New Plans in World Water Week
Etihad Water and Electricity Company sheds light on its plan to reduce water leakage in its distribution network in the northern regions of the country.
This is in conjunction with World Water Week, which began yesterday and continues until August 30th.
This plan is part of Etihad Water and Electricity comprehensive strategy and roadmap.
That aims to achieve the goals of Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative and support national efforts to address water scarcity.
The plan involves innovative technologies such as “smart balls”.
In addition to advanced systems for acoustic inspection and data recording.
These technologies have the capability to detect leaks and send immediate alerts along the water distribution network.
Part of the Ambitious Five-year Roadmap
EtihadWE is also ambitiously expanding the use of highly efficient smart meters.
By reducing the service area covered by each main meter.
This facilitates early leak detection and precise identification of leak locations.
Yousef Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EtihadWE, emphasizes that their comprehensive plan to reduce water loss is part of an ambitious five-year roadmap.
The goal is to develop all elements of the infrastructure in this vital sector.
In parallel with these efforts, EtihadWE plans significant investments to meet the needs of water consumers.
The water sector is a fundamental pillar on the path to achieving the overall national vision for development and sustainability.
Al Ali underscores the importance of following the strategic path set by UAE leadership for this vital sector.
This includes initiatives such as Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative and the National Water Security Strategy 2036.
Enhancing and Developing Water Management Systems
Etihad Water and Electricity has based its general plan and clear strategy in this sector on these visionary initiatives.
Engineer Abdullah Al Khameeri, Chief Operating Officer at EtihadWE, highlights that employing technologies like monitoring and remote control devices significantly contributes to obtaining proactive and reliable data on loss and leakage rates.
This step is essential for enhancing and developing water management systems, ultimately leading to greater water security.
The advanced data recording systems used by EtihadWE enable better leak detection.
This is by analyzing recorded flow data and identifying unusual patterns.
The “smart ball” technology is equipped with sensors.
It provides real-time information about potential leaks throughout the water distribution network.
Additionally, sound-based inspection systems help detect leaks by analyzing precise sound data related to water flow rates in pumping and distribution pipes.
Sustainable Future Growth by Etihad Water and Electricity
EtihadWE plans to enhance its response to potential leaks.
By dividing the network into smaller focus areas and installing more main meters.
Smaller focus areas allow easier pinpointing of leak locations when flow rates exceed normal levels.

Furthermore, EtihadWE has a sustainable plan for investing in the expansion, replacement, and rehabilitation of the existing network.
Supported by monitoring devices, this will contribute to future growth.
It will also reduce water loss, and improve operational efficiency—all in the pursuit of better water resource management.
On another note, the new Water Control Center project (SCADA) will enhance network management by developing remote monitoring and control systems.
The platform provided by the center includes hydraulic modeling and electronic systems for pressure and flow control, aiding in early leak detection within the network.
