Emirates Red Crescent Emphasizes the Role of Humanitarian Work and Community Empowerment
Emirates Red Crescent delegation participated in the “High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development” in New York.
Which is being held from July 8 to 17, 2024.
ERC delegation affirmed that humanitarian work and community empowerment are at the forefront of the UAE’s wise leadership’s priorities.
Emirates Red Crescent, under the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, is working to enhance humanitarian and development response globally.
Adding that the UAE is one of the largest donors of aid in the world.
64% of ERC aid in the year of 2022 was to eradicate poverty.
The ERC focuses on implementing infrastructure, renewable and clean energy projects.
It is also providing job, education, and healthcare opportunities to eradicate poverty from its roots worldwide.
It has achieved qualitative results through initiatives and programs that achieve sustainable development.
Allocating 64% of its aid in 2022 to eradicate poverty.
ERC has also implemented 264,788 projects in various fields, benefiting 53 countries and reaching 94 million beneficiaries.
In addition, it contributes to many joint programs with international organizations such as:
- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
- UNICEF
- World Food Programme

Where the Assistant Secretary-General for Local Affairs discussed the role of effective partnerships in combating poverty and enhancing food self-sufficiency.
The session of the “High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development” in New York, focuses on reviewing five of the Sustainable Development Goals:
- Eradicating poverty (Goal 1).
- Ending hunger (Goal 2).
- Climate action (Goal 13).
- Peaceful societies (Goal 16).
- Global partnerships (Goal 17).
