Total area of the truck rest stops 75,000 square meters
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 10 truck rest stops out of a total of 16 being implemented in partnership with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
The total area of the truck rest stops exceeds 75,000 square meters, with an operational capacity of about 5,000 trucks and heavy vehicles.
The total number of parking spaces is approximately 700, with each rest stop ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 square meters and accommodating between 30 and 45 trucks and heavy vehicles.
Mentioning that the truck rest stops include service facilities, prayer rooms, diesel fuel stations, and driver rest areas.
Where are the new 10 truck rest stops located ?
These rest stops are distributed across six vital locations and strategic roads that attract a large number of trucks daily, including:
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road
- Dubai-Hatta Road
- Dubai-Al Ain Road
- Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, and Al Awir Road.
Benefits
H.E Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, confirmed that the establishment of truck rest stops significantly enhances traffic safety and reduces truck-related accidents by 50%.
The truck rest stops will also improve traffic flow during truck ban times, raise traffic awareness among truck drivers, and solve the problem of trucks parking on main roads and residential areas.
Moreover, they provide comfort for truck drivers, especially during truck ban periods on certain roads.
Meeting the increasing demand for truck parking, given the significant rise in truck trips in Dubai.
As they exceed 300,000 trips daily, transporting about 1.5 million tons of goods daily.
He added that the selection and determination of suitable locations for truck and heavy vehicle rest stops are based on technical criteria and studies to maximize the benefits of these stations and serve the land transport sector.
The selection considered their presence on strategic roads and areas to serve the largest number of trucks daily.
Providing safe entrances and exits, avoiding impact on residential areas, and distributing the stations and rest stops along external roads.
Public-Private Partnership
Al Tayer expressed his happiness with the expansion of the partnership between the public and private sectors in implementing infrastructure and service projects. As it is providing opportunities for investors to participate in developmental projects and increase investments in various fields.
This partnership also contributes to improving the quality of public services.
By transferring knowledge, expertise, and innovation from the private sector to the public sector.
And also by training and qualifying government employees to manage and follow up on such long-term projects.
He noted that the partnership with ADNOC in establishing and operating truck rest stops strengthens Dubai’s position as a global logistics hub.
In addition it enhances the safety and well-being of drivers by providing the comfort and services they may need in their daily lives.
Land Transport
Al Tayer emphasized that the RTA prioritizes the land transport sector due to its significant role in economic and commercial movement.
The RTA conducted a comprehensive study of truck movements in Dubai, including:
Field surveys, interviews, and workshops with relevant departments and companies.
It developed a planning model to predict future truck movements and studied the need for dry ports or cargo collection and distribution centers.
And also evaluated current ban policies, times, and routes, and studied the need for dedicated truck roads.
In addition to regulatory and structural aspects related to managing truck and cargo movements in Dubai.

Integrated Station by RTA and ADNOC
It is worth noting that in 2023, the RTA signed an agreement with ADNOC.
Under the agreement, RTA will implement and operate the integrated truck rest stop near Emirates Road, adjacent to Al Tayer Racecourse.
The station covers an area of more than 76,000 square meters with a capacity of approximately 150 vehicles.
It provides integrated services that enhance driver safety and well-being, including:
Diesel fuel service, residential motels for driver rest and maintenance workshops, restaurants and administrative buildings.
In addition to prayer rooms, truck maintenance workshops, driver training centers, clinics, pharmacies, currency exchange centers, laundry services, and other support services and facilities related to the safety and well-being of truck and heavy vehicle drivers.
